Hugh Watkins
Owner/Lead Psychotherapist
For the last 31 years I have been serving, leading and coaching individuals with a diverse range of needs. I have worked in Canada’s urban centers, rural communities, and aboriginal communities and throughout the West Indies and USA.
I respect and admire diversity in the complexity of our individual uniqueness and the simplicity of our commonalities. I am passionately interested in the lives of people; specifically, in assisting them to set and meet personal goals and achieve a high level of overall wellness.

In my practice I recognize the advantage of education in building a persons’ self- worth and confidence, often supporting clients to seek opportunities to advance their skills in both formal and informal settings.
Every individual has the potential to be successful. Often individuals present with a unique range of challenges, be it emotional, cognitive, in our relationships both professionally and personal, and financial issues that may hinder our success. Therefore, it is imperative that we recognize problem areas, even highlighting some of our previous successes and then embark in some goal & value-oriented planning, uniquely tailored to each individual(s).
When working collaboratively with clients, we as counsellors here at Voice of Hope Counselling & Wellness Centre have been recognized as being authentic, providing a nurturing and engaging cultural atmosphere, where the client(s) can develop a sense of connectedness throughout the therapeutic process. It’s important for us to be engaging to our client(s) as we build our alliance toward the quality of life they are longing for; experiencing the power of life transformation, mindfully active in your lives, taking control of your journey, and build self- regulation skills that will empower you to actualize your full potential!
As CEO and in my role as a Registered Psychotherapist, I strive to support clients through, skills development, goal setting, accessing various community supports and being present, in the “here and now” for each client.
My approach is solution-focused in nature; I have an optimistic approach to identifying and building strengths. Establishing trust and building a positive and respectful relationship is paramount. I encourage and assist individuals in finding their voice in our sessions while I listening intently, paraphrase their words for clarification and reflection, expressing empathy, and having respect in their struggles. Encouragement, appreciative reflection, creativity, rapport building and co- constructing goal plans are the tools I rely on to encourage growth.
My genuine passion is people. It is my desire to assist YOU, in charting your course for success and personal happiness; bringing strength and encouragement while helping YOU achieve personal fulfillment, wholeness and tranquility within YOUR life!

My perspective as a therapist has been shaped by living and working across the globe, experiencing diverse cultures, and appreciating the many ways people pursue health and happiness. Skylar Bacchus
Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
Hi there! My name is Skylar and I am a first-generation Canadian from an immigrant Caribbean family and a proud member and advocate of the queer community. My lived experiences inform a thoughtful, affirming, and culturally responsive approach to therapy, particularly when working with individuals navigating identity, belonging, intergenerational dynamics, and systemic stress.
Before entering the field of psychotherapy, I worked as a project manager in a corporate environment. This background shapes my structured, collaborative, and practical approach to therapy and is especially meaningful in my work with ADHD. Skills such as organization, prioritization, systems thinking, and flexible problem-solving are central to how I support clients experiencing attention challenges, overwhelm, and difficulties with executive functioning.
I have experience working with ADHD, anxiety, and stress-related concerns, and I particularly enjoy supporting clients who may appear high-functioning externally while feeling internally stretched, stuck, or depleted. My work focuses on building self-understanding, developing practical tools, and supporting sustainable, meaningful change.
I also warmly welcome and affirm LGBTQ2IA+ clients, offering a space to explore identity, relationships, and family experiences with care and respect.
Together, we can work toward goals that align with your values and allow you to move forward in clarity, confidence, and a stronger sense of self.

Joshua Ayala-Arias
Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
My name is Joshua Ayala-Arias, and I am a Psychotherapist (Qualifying) at Voice of Hope. I grew up in a household shaped by my parents’ experiences emigrating from El Salvador and Chile during periods of civil war. Their journeys, and the challenges they faced adapting to a new culture, deeply influenced my understanding of resilience, identity, and belonging.

These experiences have informed my passion for helping individuals explore and reshape the narratives they have inherited, guiding them toward what feels most meaningful and authentic to them.
In my work, I strive to build genuine, collaborative relationships and to meet clients where they are.

Stella Li
Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
You don’t have to have everything figured out to begin. I see therapy as a space where we can sit with what’s uncertain together, in a way that feels authentic, grounded, and meaningful. At the core of my work is a deep belief in human resilience, especially in people who have had to navigate more than their share. I support individuals, couples and children and adolescents (age 7+) experiencing anxiety, relationship difficulties, life transitions, self-esteem concerns, and challenges related to emotional regulation and personal growth.
My approach is trauma-informed and person-centered. I draw from evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), positive psychology, and existential therapy. More importantly, I orient myself to you: your story, your pace, and your lived experience.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a management consultant. I’ve been profoundly touched by witnessing human moments in everyday life, even in places that were designed to be transactional. Those moments shaped my desire to support people in times of crisis and in the times in-between. This often looks like self-reflection, growth and possibility.
Wherever you are in your journey, it is a privilege to meet you there.

Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
Hi there, my name is Brandon. Thank you for taking the courageous first step of looking for a therapist. I’ve been there myself, so I know it can be overwhelming trying to figure out where to start.
Therapy is about building a trusting relationship where we work together to create a safe space for you to explore important questions about the things that matter most to you. The heart of my work as a therapist is helping you discover how to apply your unique strengths and experiences to create the life you want. Maybe that’s a life where fear and anxiety don’t rule the day or where your relationships begin to thrive, or maybe you’re not even sure what you want—that’s okay, too!
For nearly thirty years, I have worked in a variety of people-centred roles and am deeply committed to the well-being and growth of the whole person—mind, body, and soul. Based on what I learn about you, I will draw from a variety of counseling approaches to find the path that suits you best.
I am a good listener and I like to ask thought provoking questions. I bring a compassionate approach to counselling but I am also willing to push you into new territory depending on what you need at the moment. Time and again I have witnessed the transformation that is possible when someone begins to see their life in a new light, and I would be honoured to come alongside you for the next leg of your journey.

Life can feel complicated, overwhelming, and at times isolating. No matter what you’re navigating, you deserve a space where you can slow down, feel supported, and speak openly without fear of judgment. I view therapy as a collaborative process, where we work together to better understand your experiences, your relationships, and the patterns that may be shaping your life. My goal is to create a space that feels grounded, genuine, and safe enough for you to show up exactly as you are.
My approach is integrative and relational, informed by trauma-aware, anti-oppressive, and culturally responsive practices. I am committed to providing LGBTQ2IA+ affirming care and to honouring each person’s identity and lived experience. Alongside my clinical training, I also draw from my own lived experiences with life transitions and complex relational dynamics. This allows me to approach our work with both professional knowledge and a deep sense of empathy, while always keeping your unique story at the centre of the process. My experience as a counsellor has gently shaped my ability to offer a grounded, compassionate space for individuals navigating trauma, relationships, and life’s more complex moments.

“There are times in life when something needs to change, even if we’re not sure how.”
Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, but it can also be the beginning of something meaningful. I aim to create a space where you feel comfortable being yourself—where you can talk openly, feel heard, and begin to make sense of what you’re going through.
I work with youth and adults who are navigating things like anxiety, emotional regulation, self-esteem, identity, life transitions, and relationship challenges. I’m especially interested in how our experiences, relationships, and environments shape how we see ourselves and move through the world.
